About Coweta Baptist Church
Coweta Baptist Church is a church that holds to the historic Baptist Faith. We are not Protestants nor are we a part of any Denominational organization that calls themselves Baptist. By historic we mean we are of the "same sect of Christians that were formerly described as Ana-Baptist. Indeed this seems to have been their leading principle from the time of Tertullian to the present." (Trail of Blood, J.M. Carroll, pg.4). Cardinal Hosius, President of the Council of Trent in 1524 (Roman Catholic) said this about our Brethren, "Were it not that the Baptist have been grievously tormented and cut off with the knife during the past twelve hundred years, they would swarm in greater number than all the Reformers." (Hosius, Letters, Apud Opera, pgs. 112, 113)
We are a small church located in Coweta, Ok. and we have a very simple mission, to propagate the gospel, make disciples, and glorify Jesus Christ. That means we’re not about building a super-church, but the gathering of disciples in gospel church order, preaching the gospel to all people, so that by God's grace, they might also come to discover the joy that comes from knowing and serving Jesus Christ.
We invite you to come for a visit this Sunday in our regular worship service. We know that going to a new church can be intimidating, so we try to do things in a way where you will feel welcome. When you come, you can participate or just sit back and observe. You’ll discover a warm atmosphere, practical teaching from God's Word, and friendly people who love the Lord Jesus Christ.
Faith
We are of the historic Baptist Faith, our Confession of Faith is the 1833 New Hampshire Confession. This document is truly a Baptist work and properly discerns the faith of Baptists in times past. It is quite unfortunate that most modern Baptists no longer hold to this historic faith, however, we continue in it, not as a tradition but rather because we believe this is what the Word of God teaches.
Family
At Coweta Baptist Church we place a strong value on the family. We have age appropriate Sunday School available for your children but your children are not required to attend if you desire them to remain with you in our adult oriented Bible study. We don't offer a "children's church," we believe the family ought to worship together. Our gatherings are family gatherings. We don't separate children from their parents or segregate children from children. We believe the Bible teaches family and congregational worship.
Leadership
Coweta Baptist Church is directed by the Great Shepherd of the Sheep, the Lord Jesus Christ through the New Testament writings.. We recognize that the Lord has placed in his church under-shepherds, men of quality and leadership abilities. These are called Bishops/Elders by the Word of God and are placed among the sheep by the Great Shepherd for the feeding and tending of the flock of God. You can learn more about the leadership at Coweta Baptist by visiting our leadership page.
